before deciding to live a relaxed life in south of france by the sea, manuel perez did a few things…
manuel perez has been active in the modern dance music scene for several years as a producer and remixer. his reputation has been built upon his long, international dj career. he was the owner of the wrong steps label in sweden, and more recently became a key member of marendadisc’s artist collective.
manuel began djing in the mid-eighties where he became a resident at the best clubs in south-west france and catalonia. during this period, he introduced early house and techno to a wider audience, working at legendary clubs like château de fitou and rachdingue. later, he played at early rave events, often inviting mc’s and live musicians to perform during his sets.
soon enough, his reputation spread overseas and for more than 20 years manuel has djed in many countries. he has been billed alongside the biggest names in the electronic music industry, such as derrick may, rhythm doctor, soul ii soul, underworld, system7, paul oakenfold, dimitri, eartha kitt, larry heard, bandulu, alex reece, the aloof, kid creole, george morel, stonebridge, luke slater, jori hulkkonen, joel mull, jesper dahlbäck, adam beyer, aqua bassino, paul johnson, robert armani, jon marsh (the beloved), claude monnet, richard dorfmeister, erik rug, robert hood, aril brikha, ivan smagghe, steve rachmad, llorca, marco pasarani, håkan lidbo, bob sinclar, jennifer cardini, david duriez, patrick pulsinger and many more…
in 1993, he moved to stockholm, where he made friends who pushed him to get seriously involved in music production. as a result, his first important release was the “strong accents” single on loop records, recorded with alexi delano and cari lekebusch. many releases followed on labels like plumphouse, loop, g-force and step2house. manuel also produced remixes for labels such as warner and mnw. he co founded the svek label, before launching his own wrong steps productions studio and label.
in 1996, he met french percussionist philippe monrose and they created the spiro projecto, an electronic fusion act involving various guest musicians and vocalists. their mutual studio and stage experience has enabled them to create spiro concerto, a percussive live act delivering serious dance-floor action on an exotic tip. they were making world-lounge-electronic type music long before it became trendy. their work was released via obscure 12″ ep’s and singles, with many of the tracks surfacing later on compilations like “hotel costes”, and labels like yoshitoshi and turbo. many of their titles have also been remixed by artists such as raph dumas, jori hulkkonen, ymc and even the beloved.
in 2003, manuel decided to move to the french mediterranean coast ( north of barcelona,) where he could enjoy life in a peaceful environment. still djing and producing, manuel perez also works as consultant for local cultural institutions.
always staying true to his vision of entertainment, manuel has invested time and energy into his studio activities. he has produced, mixed and mastered albums for various record companies. he has also released collaborations with artists like pawel kobak, fredrik stark, jesper dahlbäck, microman, nico bellotto, alberto vicente, mourad sliti, ron de cuba, brice bertran, aqua bassino and martinez. he has remixed acts and producers like brooklyn funk essentials, martin venetjoki, håkan lidbo, dalminjo, minimalbcn, max cherry, ctrl+alt+supp, uninvited partners, popcorn, the delivery boy, tomm jobb & dj janoz, thérese racket, orlando voorn, mark o’sullivan, reynold, alton miller, rennie foster, justin harris.
manuel is currently recording with alvina red aside of producing and remixing for several labels, he is also working on a new live act with raph dumas. there is more to come in the future…

after moving to berlin in 2000 he got his first regular club engagements at pfefferberg and various lounges/bars. bookings in the capitals larger clubs soon followed when he initiated the musical platform and party series ‘berliner stadtmusikanten’ together with the djs daniel dreier, boris and ahmet coskun in 2003.
these well established parties at annabar and casino club berlin drew quite some attention and became an integral part of the berlin electronic music scene as well as a concept to promote international exchanges of similar constellation throughout europe. various international ‘berliner stadtmusikanten’ gigs took place in graz (houseverbot)., antwerp (lowlands, usa import), and vice versa guest dj teams were invited to berlin.
after joining the ‘clique booking’ team in 2005 and releasing his first own tracks in 2007 on ‘trenton records’ the doors were open for a more international career and many booking requests from well know clubs around the globe proved the demand for his unique style comprising of a strong berlin minimal background spiced with techhousy and spheric spatial elements which are also typical for the releases that followed in the last 2 years.

the cultural service of the french embassy, the goethe institute and the french alliance network in kazakhstan launched the second edition of eurotronic in order to explore the advances of computer technologies and the richness of fusion of genres with an attempt to mix acoustic and electronic music. eurotronic 2010 was an original project of knowledge exchanges between europe, kazakhstan and kirghizistan through a collective work of electronic music creations integrating acoustic elements of traditional melodies from central asia.
the first step of the project consisted on a collective work of music creation between two experimented djs and electronic music composers from france (reynold) and germany (rene breitbarth) and djs and acoustic musicians from kazakhstan and kirghizstan. reynold worked with the artists in astana while rene was in almaty with his group. kazakh musicians were recorded on the 1st day and these recordings used as samples to compose and produce electronic dance tracks. the whole workshop was focused on exploring european cutting edge underground style of music called something like “minimal deep house”. after one week of hard work both workshop ended with nine tracks plus one more track from reynold and rene so a total number of eleven tracks. the tronikstan cd was born.

we are proud to present past present future, a compilation of exclusive trenton material. past or upcoming releases or even exclusive tracks this whole cd is all about the sound of trenton and our vision of electronic dance music. this recording means so much to us that we decided to put all this music together asking our colleague and friend claudia marquardt aka p.toile to mix each and every track and give it life with her incomparable dj skills and her sense of how to make people dance.
a few words about p.toile now. she’s originally from kiel where she started playing, working on music and organizing parties with the “groove complex” collective made up of kai hellebrandt, dj and trenton artist till von sein and herself. after a 4-year stint in paris, she met reynold. together they decided to set up their own label (trenton) and booking agency (clique bookings). a few years later, they moved to berlin where they currently promote their artists and friends and most of their music.
this compilation is basically the result of 3 years of creative activity and also a way to promote our sound to other ears. we also want to provide our audience with opportunities to get caught by the trenton sound.

Wayne Frost
wayne frost
his use of both traditional and untraditional instruments such as guitars, saxophones, tape machines, and household objects gave him rise in the downtown music world of new york in the early 90’s. his collaboration with various nyc contemporary guitar quartets/sextets (rhys chatam, john meyers…) opened the door to experimental theatre and film and he soon became an accomplished sound designer for award winning on and off broadway plays and short films. credits include “gross indecency” (voted best play of the year by time magazine) and “the blue man group”. in the mid 90’s his involvement with experimental acoustic/electronic groups such as slash orchestra and blastula peaked his interest in computer-generated music. in 1997 his electronic music project “medium” was contracted by sony records. in 1998 his encounter with visual artist elizabeth tesla sparked his interest in digital film and real-time video manipulation conjugated with live electronic music. thus, the audio-visual collaboration; cartesian lover was born. shortly thereafter he moved to paris to live and work. since 2000 he has been producing experimental digital films, video installations and sound scores with cartesian lover and other artists as well as performing live all over europe, canada and the usa.
since 2002 he has also collaborated with artists such as singer dierdre dubois (ex-singer of the acclaimed world music group, ekova), and video artists iat (denis conolly and anne cleary) as a composer, music producer, sound designer and musician. of particular interest is his collaboration in 2004 with composer martin wheeler on a live audio-video re-mix project of the film “adieu” (financed by arte) directed by arnaud despallières. live performances include: centre pompidou, festival nemo (forum des images), festival temps d’images (la ferme du buisson), festival du film de vendome… he has worked on numerous remix projects for various international artists as well as a solo electronic album “wayne frost” (trenton records). he is from toronto and lives in normandy, france.

Janvier Jones
Janvier Jones
janvier jones is a chicago native who has enjoyed music and singing since she was a young girl. she grew up listening to the soulful voices of aretha franklin, minnie ripperton, and chaka khan, to name a few, and knowing that she wanted to follow in their footsteps. by the age of twelve, she was singing in the youth choir of her church and had already competed in several talent contests. she later attended columbia college, chose musical theater as her major, and was cast in two stage shows written and composed by william russo, late conductor of the chicago jazz ensemble. she also studied privately with bobbi wilsyn, vocalist for the ensemble.
since graduating from columbia, janvier a veteran of the chicago music scene, has performed at some of chicago’s best known venues, including the cubby bear, the metro, martyrs, green dolphin street, the wild hare, and pop’s for champagne. she was also a house vocalist on the odyssey cruise ship at navy pier.
in her role as a free lance vocalist, she has performed and recorded with several local bands (working alongside such renowned notables as guitarists jeff parker (tortoise) and leroy bach (wilco), bassist matt lux (iron and wine), and drummers george fludas, and ted sirota (ted sirota’s rebel souls), and has showcased her talent in many genres, from jazz and funk to blues, rock, and reggae. janvier has also performed in central america, asia, and europe, with her most recent performance in toulouse, france during winter 2010.
janvier has also fronted her own band, buttafly, performing locally and creating a cd on the british label naim. in addition to her work with trenton records, janvier currently performs as a lead vocalist in well-known local band “sway chicago”.

finally, signal deluxe is on trenton! for several years now jega & valeria aka signal deluxe have been supporting the label. they have become very close friends and artists we respect, and it seems that our musical path are in perfect harmony right now. for this ep signal deluxe collaborated with 2 of their good amigos danny & diego know as d opposite d. silent rain is, as far as we are concerned, exactly the type of music that we want to hear on the dance floor. mind detective is also a great tune, so great that we’ve actually decided to put both mixes on this ep.
as a remixer we are proud to present another long time friend and supporter, franco cangelli. franco is a belgian/sicilian producer that runs the great label mowar and is also an artist with a strong ethic, which is rare these days. we like that!

for trenton 040 we are going with label boss sam rouanet (aka reynold) with a new track featuring janvier jones on vocals. this record has a story: janvier and sam have known each other for almost 15 years from back when sam lived in chicago and together they were part of a funk band called aufm. they composed, arranged, recorded and played together for the whole time sam lived in chitown. fast forward to 2010, some good years passed and they decided it was time to come up with something fresh! trenton is excited to have one of the best soul singers from chicago, in janvier, on one of our records. to make it even better we have two incredible and none the less very different remixes from alvina red & manuel perez and the swedish legendary producer hakan lidbo that both gives us an amazing deep re-interpretation of the song. release 40 on trenton, and after 7 years of doing it we are sure to go even deeper.

cosmic cowboys are back with another deep message. and it’s great. the boys from venice are in top form and deliver a beautiful 3-track gem. “sunset on the vineyard” is the best representation of how this record sounds… for us it’s the sound of drinking a great prosseco under the warm italian sun. but then that’s how we first heard this fantastic track. “origami” has the same direction with a bit of a more forward pulse on top and the echonomist remix just kills the dance floor with a tougher and up-tempo re-work. finally “dancing with the ghosts” shows a bit of a different side of cc’s production skills, a bit more progressive but nonetheless deep as an oceanic trench!

we’re very proud to release on trenton records an amazing ep from columbian great producer and dj paulo olarte. based in hamburg for the last 9 years, paulo has released on plenty of well-loved label like liebe & detail, diynamic, anorak or galaktika alongside with freshfish that he runs together with dj hausmann. paulo’s style is very unique starting with the fact that he does everything with analog gear and he always manages to infuse the tunes with a latin american vibe. “negro sobre gris” is no exception to that and the whole ep is full of surprises, great-refined rhythms and a nice and warm sound. the main title is remixed by another member of trenton’s south american contingent: garnica, who hails from venezuela and comes up with a great vibing re-interpretation.
